How to Change the Screen Resolution on Your Android

Every screen has a resolution that determines how things will look on the screen.
It is the number of pixels down and across.
It will decide the use of screen space, how apps will look, and the size of icons.
Manipulating the screen resolution can provide you a larger or smaller print on your Android’s display.

note that your Android must first be rooted in order for you to change the screen resolution.

Method 1:
Using Resolution Changer
1 Launch Resolution Changer.
Locate the app icon on your home screen or app drawer.
Its the one with two blue screens.
Tap to launch.

*.If you don’t have Resolution Changer yet, you can download it fromGoogle Play.

2 Adjust the screen resolution.
After you launch the app, the welcome screen will display the current screen resolution.
A slider will also be on the screen; this is where you will adjust the screen resolution.
*.Use the slider to adjust the resolution to what you want.
Sliding to the left will lower the resolution while sliding to the right will increase it.
The screen resolution you have navigated to will be displayed below the slider.

3 Apply the new screen resolution.
When you have decided on the screen resolution you want, tap “Apply” at the bottom.
A confirmation message will appear.
Tap “Agree” if you are sure you want to make the changes.

4 Reboot your phone.
Long press the Power button on your device until it restarts.
Once you have restarted the phone, the screen will flicker, and then take you to the phone’s lock screen.
It will then display a message asking if you wish to keep the changes, giving you 15 seconds to agree before going back to the old screen resolution.

Method 2:
Using Root Browser
1 Launch Root Browser.
Locate the app on your home screen or app drawer.
It’s the black folder-like icon with the Android logo on it.
Tap to open.

*.If you don’t have Root Browser yet,you can download it fromGoogle Play.

2 Navigate to the System folder.
The home screen of the root browser will allow you to navigate and browse across the different files of your Android device.
Scroll down to the System folder and tap on it.

3 Open “Build.Prop.” In the System folder you will find “build.prop.” Tap it, and a pop-up menu will open asking which app you want to use toopen this file.

*.Choose your phone’s default office viewer, Acrobat Reader, or Google Drive’s Viewer to open this file.

4 Change the screen’s resolution.
Go down to System Property, where you can find “Default Brightness.” “ro.sf.lcd_ density”.
It will be followed by the specification of the current screen resolution.

*.You can manipulate that number and replace it with a new DPI.
DPI counts the number of pixels on your screen per inch.
A small DPI will yield a less detailed image.
Just enter the DPI you want.

5 Save your changes.
Do this by tapping the “Save” button at the top.

6 Restart your device.
Long press the Power button on your device until it restarts.
Once it has restarted, the changes will take effect.

Method 3
How to change the DPI of your Android device without root

Step 1: Enable USB Debugging on your Android device from Settings -> Developer Options.
The Developer option menu is hidden by default though and needs to be enabled by going into Settings -> About Phone and tapping on ‘Build Number’ 7 times.

Step 2: Download and install ADB drivers and Minimal ADB for Windows from below.
Make sure not to close the command prompt window that opens up after installing Minimal ADB.

*.Minimal ADB/Fastboot for Windows
*.ADB USB drivers

Step 3: Connect your Android device to your PC.
If you get a prompt on your device asking you to authorise this PC for debugging, make sure to select ‘Always allow from this computer’ before tapping ‘Ok.’

Step 4: Now execute the following command in the command prompt window that had automatically opened at the end of Step 2:

adb shell wm density “INSERT_DPI” && adb reboot

Make sure to replace “INSERT_DPI” with a value of your choice.

A lower DPI will lead to more information being displayed on the screen, while a higher value will do vice versa.
As soon as the command is executed, your device will reboot for the changes to take effect.

Keep in mind that certain system apps on your device might not play well with the change in DPI values.

On my Galaxy A7, for example, any DPI value below 520 causes the camera app to crash.
So, make sure to play around with the DPI values before settling in on one which you think is perfect.

If you want to reset the DPI back to its original value, run the following command in ADB:

adb shell wm size reset && adb reboot

What DPI did you end up switching to on your device?
